Educational Partnerships
Finger Lakes Health is committed to health career education.
For post-secondary education:
• We have made significant investments in health career education with our Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing LPN program, and Finger Lakes Health College of Nursing and Health Sciences, which offers a RN program. We also offer a Certified Nursing Assistant – CNA program.
• In addition, we have a longstanding Educational Partnership Program with Hobart & William Smith Colleges for their students interested in health careers to participate in formal observerships.
• We also have select opportunities for college internships, in which students can observe medical professionals at work. Opportunities are scheduled on a case-by-case basis dependent upon area of interest, application process including regulatory requirements and availability of mentors. Some colleges have formal contracts for clinical partnerships with Finger Lakes Health and these contracts are managed through the administration office.
For high school aged students
• Since 1995, Finger Lakes Health, in conjunction with the Wayne-Finger Lakes Technical and Career Center, has offered the New Vision Medical Career Program – a highly selective program offered on a competitive application basis to high school seniors within the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES district. Please consult with your school’s guidance office for more information. Application deadlines are in the student’s junior year.
• On varied schedules, we offer career exploration programs through which students can explore healthcare careers. These include M.A.S.H. Camp, Camp Medquest, Medical Clubs, STEM Camps and more.
• On an individualized basis, dependent upon several factors including availability of mentors, high school students can participate in job-shadowing (short-term observation in a career area of interest).
