Program Overview

CNA Class

Our New York State approved training programs combine classroom instruction and supervised clinical experience with the philosophy of providing holistic and relationship based care.

Classroom instruction includes basic personal care skills to assist residents in their daily activities, nutritional needs, safety, communication techniques, growth, and development through the life span. Emphasis lies on the older adult population, the natural process of aging, basic anatomy and function of the human body as well as ethical and legal responsibilities of the CNA.

The supervised clinical experience allows trainees to practice and perfect their skills while caring for actual residents of our skilled nursing facilities.

Upon successful completion of training, students will be eligible to apply to take the New York State certification examinations.

Prior to entering the program, you are hired as a Finger Lakes Health employee, are paid during the program, and are then moved into a CNA position upon completion of the program and have become certified.

To be eligible for the program you must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED. Attendance of the entire training program is very important in order for the program requirements to be met and for trainee performance to be evaluated. There is minimal allowance for absence.

Apply on-line by clicking on Careers and selecting the CNA Training program you are interested in. For more information about the Nursing Assistant Training Program contact Human Resources at 315-787-4039.
