The Penn Yan Lions Club, in cooperation with the Cardiac Rehabilitation program of Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, raised $16,221 to benefit the Cardiac Rehab program Scholarship Fund via the “Cardiac Scramble”.
The golf tournament was played June 13 at Lakeside Country Club. Net revenue from the event provides funds for financial assistance to Phase II cardiac rehabilitation participants, who are unable to meet the full cost of co-payments not covered by insurance, and a portion of the proceeds benefits other Lions Club charitable projects.
Lara Chatel Turbide, Vice President, Community Services for Finger Lakes Health, and Executive Director, Finger Lakes Health Foundation, thanked the Penn Yan Lions Club, and co-chairs of the event for 16 years, Dave Payne and Bruce Roe, for the countless hours they spent organizing the tournament.
She commented, “This year’s contribution from tournament proceeds brings the total contributed by the Lions Club to Soldiers & Sailors for the Cardiac Rehab scholarship fund, to nearly $177,000. Because of the generosity and dedication of the Lions and Dave Payne and Bruce Roe, hundreds of cardiac patients have benefitted from this life-changing program. This type of community support is the hallmark of a community hospital, and Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital is very privileged to have had such incredible partners in the Penn Yan Lions.”
In addition, Turbide extends thanks to the many businesses, agencies, and individuals who provided gifts, door prizes, hole sponsorships and major sponsorships for the event, as well as the golfers who supported the tournament.
“We appreciate everyone’s support of Soldiers & Sailors and the Cardiac Rehab program,” she said.
