Abandon Brewing Company in Penn Yan will host a fund-raising event Saturday, September 29, noon to 6 p.m. to benefit the Struzzi Homestead Education Fund. Open to the public, the event will feature beer, food and music by Acoustic Brew from 2 to 5 p.m. The brewery is located at 2994 Merritt Hill Road, Penn Yan.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Struzzi Homestead Education Fund to allow caregivers at The Homestead of Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan to further their education in patient care. Bill Struzzi, a resident at The Homestead, is the son of Cathy Sperrick, operator of Abandon Brewing, who started the fund to assist caregivers who have supported her son and their family.

“Finger Lakes Health Foundation is deeply grateful to the Cathy Sperrick and Bill’s entire family for hosting this special fundraising event and their generosity and appreciation of our long-term care services and caregivers. Their family’s kindness and recognition of the importance of having healthcare close to home is making a meaningful, positive impact for all the residents and staff at the Homestead,” said Lara Chatel Turbide, Vice President, Community Services, Finger Lakes Health, and executive director, Finger Lakes Health Foundation.

Donations for the education fund can be sent to Finger Lakes Health Foundation, 196 North Street, Geneva, NY 14456, with a designation in the memo line for the “Struzzi Education Fund”. You may also call the Foundation at (315) 787-4053 and make a donation via credit card.

The Homestead at Soldiers & Sailors is a 151-bed long-term care facility consisting of four units, including two skilled nursing units, a cognitively impaired unit, and a behavioral unit.
