Art Cowan loves to golf. When pain in his left shoulder was hindering his game, he decided to contact Interlakes Orthopaedic Surgery. Having been a patient before, Art knew that he was going to be in good hands.

Art was having so much pain in his left shoulder he had to swing the golf club with one hand and he could not even turn on the turn signal in his car. He had to use his right hand for everything. He works for the Seneca County Sheriff’s Court division and a requirement of his job is to qualify twice a year with his hand weapon, which requires him to shoot with his non-dominant hand. In his case, that is his left hand.

It was determined that Art needed a total reverse left shoulder replacement.

Art had his surgery at Geneva General Hospital where he received “top notch care”. Art describes his stay as “Fantastic. Before surgery, I knew exactly what to expect. The staff was very attentive. It almost felt like being at home. It was a very rewarding experience.”

As part of his recovery, Art went to Garnsey Rehabilitation Center for his physical therapy where he saw Julianna Tyler, PT, MS, Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist. “I have seen her many times and she is excellent,” said Art.

Art is now “good to go.” He is back to playing in two different golf leagues and is able to fire his weapon for work. He says he does not have any pain. “It’s amazing really, it’s like night and day, he concluded.
