Breast Ultrasound

Breast Ultrasound

Finger Lakes Health offers breast ultrasound as a diagnostic procedure.  When an abnormality is found on a mammogram or is discovered by a physical examination of the breast, it is very important to determine whether the abnormality is normal tissue, cystic (fluid filled) or solid.  Almost all simple breast cysts are benign (non-cancerous).  Mammography alone is unable to tell the difference between a cyst and a solid mass.

A breast ultrasound is a simple and painless method to distinguish whether abnormality discovered on mammography or physical examinations normal tissue, cystic or a solid mass.

Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to image the structures in the breast.  It’s painless and does not uses x-ray, or any form or radiation to image.

In addition to breast ultrasounds, our facilities also provide gynecological and obstetrical ultrasounds, as well as ultrasounds of other body regions.
