Scholarships & Awards
The Finger Lakes Health Foundation administers several scholarship and award programs that benefit our community:
Gladys Ansley Rector Memorial Scholarship - available to a member of the nursing staff at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, including The Homestead, who is pursuing a B.S. in nursing at nearby Keuka College. The award was established by the late Richard Rector to memorialize his mother, who was a nurse at SSMH.
John D. Kelly Memorial Award - established in memory of the former administrator of Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital to support a special project within the facility. The award benefits patients, nursing home residents, and staff.
The Kitty Wigsten Memorial Scholarship – this award was established in memory of Kitty Wigsten, longtime nurse and administrator at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan. The scholarship is presented to a graduating senior or seniors of Penn Yan Academy who are pursuing a career in healthcare. Applications are available through the Penn Yan Academy Guidance Office.
The Ruth Soules Memorial Scholarship – this award was established in memory of Ruth E. (Allen) Soules, who graduated from Dundee Central High School and then received her LPN degree from Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing. This scholarship will help support the education of a Dundee Central High School graduate attending the Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing at Geneva General Hospital or secondarily, another nursing school, or thirdly, pursuing another health care related career.
