Hospital Visitation Policy

VISITATION PROGRAM

Geneva General Hospital and Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital 

 

 

Admitted Patients Visitation:

  • The patient’s one (1) identified support person may have unrestricted access to the patient 24/7 to provide support and care during the patient’s stay.

  • Admitted patients may have two (2) visitors in addition to their support person between 8 am and 7 pm daily. Visitors may rotate by switching out of the waiting room of the hospital. Any visitor remaining after 7 pm will be asked to leave/escorted out by security 

  • Members of the clergy or requested by the patient for religious reasons will not be counted in the number of visitors 

 

Emergency Department

  • Emergency Department patients may have two (2) support people at a time. 

  • Visitors taking turns must switch out of the waiting room.

 

Imminent Death and Comfort Care Patients

In recognition of the 

compassionate needs of patients in imminent death and comfort care situations, the number of visitors will not be restricted. 

 

Outpatient Procedure Support Person:

  • One (1) support person may accompany a patient to outpatient appointments or procedures

  • For procedures, the support person may remain with the patient through the initial intake process and may rejoin the patient for the discharge process. During the procedure, the support person may be asked to wait in a designated waiting area.

  • For outpatient appointments, one (1) support person may accompany the patient.

 

Finger Lakes Health Urgent Care Centers and Physician Practices 

  • One (1) support person may accompany a patient to Urgent Care or a physician's Practice

 

All Visitors

  • Must sign in at the entrance to the facility

  • Will not be allowed to visit if they have respiratory or flu-like symptoms

  • Must be accompanied by an adult if under 16 years of age

  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by as recommended by the New York State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention based on the patient's diagnoses.

 

 

 

LIMITING VISITATION

Finger Lakes Health reserves the right to limit visitation that would interfere with the care of the patient, the care of other patients, or when clinically appropriate. 

Reasons for limiting or restricting visitation include, but are not limited to:

  • Any court order limiting or restraining contact

  • Behavior representing a direct risk or threat to the patient, staff, or others in the immediate environment

  • Behavior disruptive of the functioning of the patient care unit

  • Reasonable limitations on the number of visitors at any one time

  • The patient’s risk of infection from the visitor

  • Visitor’s risk of infection from the patient

  • Extraordinary protections because of an infectious disease outbreak

  • Substance abuse, suicide risk, or other treatment procedures requiring restricted visitation

  • Patient’s need for privacy or rest

  • In certain cases where the patient is undergoing care interventions 

 

 

GRIEVANCE PROCESS

If the patient or their support person believes that their visitation rights have been violated, they may file a grievance with Finger Lakes Health through the Performance Improvement Department.
